At Caring Dentistry of Queens in Richmond Hill, NY, we can fix plenty of dental problems. We put in fillings, do implants, and everything in between. What we truly prefer, however, is to preserve a patient’s natural teeth in optimum condition. Why? We always put patients and their best interests first at Caring Dentistry of Queens.
It’s always in a patient’s best interest to keep their natural teeth. Despite the advancements we made with restorative procedures, there’s nothing as good as a natural tooth so far. Preventive dentistry is all about preserving teeth and protecting them from potential diseases.
Unfortunately, many people don’t seek preventive dentistry. They just wait until something goes wrong or their teeth develop an issue to see a dentist. That’s not a policy we can recommend. The best possible thing to do would be to visit the dentist every 6 months.
During these visits or checkups, we’ll examine your teeth for any early signs of trouble. We’ll also clean them from any plaque or build-up. Hardened plaque is made up of bacteria. It’s almost impossible to remove that plaque at home without the equipment we have at the clinic.
Getting regular cleanings and frequently removing plaque as it builds up can make a significant difference in a person’s oral hygiene. It removes any lingering bacteria and lowers the risk of cavities and dental/gum infections.
Applying dental sealants to teeth is something we do regularly, mostly for children. Dental sealant is made of composite resin. It’s applied to the grooves naturally present in the molars of children. These grooves are great nesting places for bacteria as they’re hard to reach with a toothbrush.
We recommend that children get sealant procedures from the age of 5 to the age of 15. This is the period where people are most vulnerable to getting dental caries. Dental sealant might need to be reapplied every couple of years because it wears off.
At Caring Dentistry of Queens, we would rather keep your teeth perfectly healthy than treat them when they’re not. Whatever you need, we’re always here to help.
